New Designs Now Available

My most recent designs are now available in the shop and in my Etsy store. These newest 9 designs represent the best of the new directions I have been working on this spring. You’ll see two new necklaces, the Diana and the Lady Luck, that feature pendants on long chains. These two are my own twist on the long chain trend which I have been absolutely LOVING. These two designs, along with the Faceted collection, also represent a new direction for me- each of these designs started out as an original wax carving. I am just dipping my toe into the potential design possibilities of wax carving, and I am excited to push my limits in this direction.

You will also see mini versions of my Axle Collection, made mini by popular demand! I like my earrings big, but so many people have asked me for a smaller version that I decided to add them to the line and make them available all the time. Enjoy!

Finally, you’ll see my first ever read-to-order gold wedding band. This new item is more symbolic than anything- I fully expect to be making most wedding bands to custom specifications. I’ve added this read-to-go band to my shop mostly so that people will know I am now making wedding bands. If you have friends getting married, spread the word!

Kendra Renee Makes Custom Wedding Bands!

I’m getting to that point in my life where all my friends seem to be getting married. We have four weddings this summer, and quite a few more on the horizon for 2013. A few months ago, I started making custom wedding bands for friends as they said their vows. It’s an amazing experience to create something that you know will be worn every day for the rest of someone’s life- something that symbolizes their love and connection to their spouse. All winter I’ve been glued to my sketchbook and my workbench dreaming up a new collection of work for spring, and it’s finally ready to unveil!

I’m beginning to branch out into gold, and I have three new designs in Vermeil and one in gold fill. I also have three new designs using rough cut quartz crystal- the first designs to incorporate stones that I have ever included in my main collection. They’re all below for you to enjoy! I’ve been looking for ways to introduce gold into my work for a long time. The problem is that gold is over $1400.00 an ounce! For a little perspective, silver is at the most expensive that I have ever seen it (it’s approaching three times the cost of when I started making jewelry), and costs $36.00 an ounce.

The new earrings above are a material called Vermeil. But what the heck is that?

Vermeil is a French term used to describe a sterling silver object that is coated with a thick layer of 24K gold. The gold layer must be at least 100 millionths of an inch (quite thick, as far as plating goes). A lot of jewelry that is plated in gold is; 1. not sterling silver underneath- it is usually a much cheaper base metal like brass, nickel or copper and therefore has the potential to cause allergic reactions and 2. is plated in a very thin layer that may wear off quickly with use. Vermeil avoids both of those pitfalls, giving it the gorgeous, luxurious, 24K gold finish, while still keeping the price affordable.
